The Signs of an Underfloor Heating Leak
Firstly, how do you know if you have a leak in your underfloor heating?
Well, the most common sign is that there’s damp on the floors. When this happens, you can find unexpected wet patches on the floor, or you could notice the sign of mould growing on the floor.
Another good indicator that your system is leaking is when the system’s pressure drops. You can monitor the pressure using the pressure gauge, and the underfloor heating manufacturer should tell you what the ideal pressure is.
You could also find that you hear a leak coming from an area of your home, or you could find out only when your water bill lands on your doormat, with a higher charge than normal.
Whatever the signs are, please call us as soon as possible if you suspect a UFH water leak. The longer you leave the leak, the more damage it will cause, so it is very important to find and fix the leak quickly.
How We Find the Source of the UFH Leak
Finding a leak in underfloor heating can often be tricky, however, we have a number of ways of solving the problem.
After a thorough visual inspection of visible aspects of the system, we’ll then usually move onto thermal imaging.
This technology is fantastic and allows us to view the temperature of the floor. If we see any significant variations, this could point us towards the source.
We could also use tracer gas, which is exceptionally effective. The harmless gas is pumped into the underfloor heating system, and we can then monitor where it is escaping, thus allowing us to pinpoint the leak’s exact location.
We also have various other options open to us too, including acoustic surveys and even using an endoscope. We have invested heavily in the leak detection technology we use, to ensure we offer the most effective service possible to all our clients.
We should also point out that most of our methods are non-destructive, so you won’t have to worry about extra damage to your home.
If we do ever need to remove or damage any portion of your home, we will, of course, ask permission before doing so.
